Jericho Commission
Christ based re-entry
"I was in prison, and you came to visit me." MT 25:36c
The Bible tells the story of Joshua, and the walls of Jericho (Joshua 5 & 6). The people of Israel were obedient to God and He destroyed the walls of Jericho. He released those inside, who were obedient, and welcomed them into Israel’s community. The Jericho Commission has been commissioned to do the same. We have been called to provide a network of resources to help offenders, who have paid their debt to society, come out from behind the walls. We, through the Church, welcome them into the Christian community and help them, in any way we can, to successfully build a new life where they choose to call home.
While Jericho Commission exists as a resource center for Christian ministries working with ex-offenders, we are much more. We fully train pastors and lay people who are willing to accept and mentor ex-offenders whom we choose to call participants.
Our comprehensive and ongoing mentor training equips men and women with the tools that they need to help participants succeed in society. But the training does more than benefit the participants; it has also proven itself a blessing to the mentors who take the training. Many churches that have opened their doors to participants have found their congregations infused with a desire to grow, and to grow closer to God. |
